The holiday season is on us and it’s time to start looking at what happened around this time last year!
We know that sales can change around this time of the year. We see different drinks on the menu, seasonal food and a variety of items that are only served this time of year.
With SP-1 we want you to be able to know what happened last year so you can make good decisions as to what to carry this year. Fortunately, we have a number of ways to help you with this.
First we can use our Business Summary Report to see what the sales of specific items were last year. Remember that you can run the Business Summary for any time frame – just enter a starting and ending dates.
The Business Summary is made up of a ton of sub-reports.
One of the first things to look at is what promotions you ran over the holidays and how they did. The discount or coupon report is great for this.
With this part of the report you can see each discount, how much was discounted off the price, the total number of times it was used and how popular it was compared to your other discounts.
We can then use this to see what the effective discounts were for that time frame and re-run them.
There is one other area we can look at to determine what happened last year. The information below is a sample of our Specialty Report from the Business Summary Recap.
In this example we can see two main menu categories. Specialty Coffee & Sandwiches. In Specialty Coffee, Lattes account for 33.92% of all our drinks and 50.08% of those lattes were 12oz. We can see that the Halloween Special sandwich was 5.61% of our sales during this month. This report is very powerful as it let’s us see which of the items are more popular within their category.
Keep in mind that SP-1 has a number of other reports in the Business Summary that can help you. Give us a call and see what else you might want to look at!

Happy April Fools Day
Everyone knows that SelbySoft has been working diligently on new enhancements recently. Here are some significant changes that will soon be implemented:
In an effort to help our customers, tech support will be provided from a continuously airborne 747 so we can eliminate time zone challenges.
To save money all our new versions will be in black and white.
We have now convinced Coffee Fest, World Tea, Pizza Expo, Northwest Food Service, SCAA etc to combine into one super show so all of us in sales are only out of the office once a year.
To cut costs, we will stop providing a picture oriented order system. (Wait – That makes us like everyone else!)
We are going to move our software to be a 100% Facebook application. We all know that is where you spend the bulk of your time anyway right?
We have finally created the fastest order system possible – Coffee will have one button that says COFFEE and the restaurant version has one button that says FOOD. Pricing is optional.
Instead of providing sales numbers, COGS, labor cost etc to your email and phone via MobileDash, SelbySoft will now just send you your employees Twitter & Facebook streams so you really know what is happening in the store.
We have contracted with the American Psychic Association to provide tech support so we know about your problem before you do.
Our Sales department will be shut down and moved to Taco Del Mar – That’s we all know that is where I spend the bulk of my time anyway.
All of these should take place on February 30th 2012.

Holiday’s and Customer Rewards!
Every year the holidays seem to get busier and busier! Remember that your customers are short on time, patience and money during these times.
Now is the time of the year to start using the marketing database you have been building up with your delivery customers and with your gift card / reward programs. This information allows you to get a leg up on the other advertising campaigns your competition by reminding your customers why they buy from you in the first place.
So, where do we start? How about with the Top 100 List of customers? Send them a reward for coming in so often and remind them why they are important to you.
Let’s not forget the people that have started to drift away from your store. These are the so-called “lazy” customers. Target the ones that have not ordered in 30,60 or 90 days.
Changing your holiday hours? Staying open later on weekends etc? Great! Let’s tell people about it. . . Target your customers by time frame and send your early morning customers a coupon for coming in later.
Too busy in the dining area? Let’s use that same report to target people that use their cards in the dining room. Target them with a carry out or delivery special, or just let them know they can pre-order!
Finally, try some blanket emails to target your whole customer base with holiday promotions. This can be targeted in a number of ways and can be tied in with free marketing on Facebook and Twitter.
Last but not least – run the historical reports to see how well certain specials did last year
